Mark W. Nienberg, SE
Associate
With a longstanding interest in information technology, Mark Nienberg capitalizes on his education and experience as a structural engineer to develop innovative, effective technology solutions for the firm. His interest in computers began in college, where he learned the FORTRAN programming language on punch-card driven mainframe computers.
As his engineering career progressed and the power of personal computers increased, Mark keenly pursued his interest in developing algorithms to simplify and standardize the many tasks of a design office. He joined Tipping Mar in 1988 and, while managing engineering design projects, built the company’s first computer network and continued developing software to improve office workflow. Finally, after twenty years as a practicing engineer, Mark shifted his focus almost exclusively to the growing firm’s information architecture.
Today, Mark’s interests and responsibilities lie in developing and supporting the software and hardware that distinguishes Tipping Mar on many levels. He is particularly enthusiastic about integrating open-source software into the office workflow and enjoys programming in PERL, PHP, and other languages. Mark’s comfort with diverse technology—Macintosh and Windows workstations, Linux and Windows servers—uniquely positions him to identify the next opportunity to improve the firm’s infrastructure.
Mark holds undergraduate and master’s degrees in structural engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
