John Wolfe, SE
Associate
John Wolfe’s dual strengths as a designer and manager have played a key role in numerous Tipping Mar projects. He takes special pride in consistently providing the highest level of client service, from producing closely coordinated construction drawings to responding quickly and completely to job-site questions.
John has led numerous new construction projects, including the architecture-award-winning Lick Wilmerding Technology and Design Center in San Francisco and two public school campuses in San Ramon. For the school campuses, he worked with the Division of the State Architect to implement the fast-track review process required to meet the projects’ ambitious schedules.
John also has extensive experience in the seismic retrofit of existing buildings, including 1000 Van Ness in San Francisco and the I. Magnin Building in Oakland, which both date to the early 1900s.
John complements his technical and design excellence with a longstanding commitment to sustainable design. He began his career as a researcher at the New Alchemy Institute on Cape Cod, Massachussetts, where he studied the effectiveness of one of the nation’s first large-scale, passive-solar demonstration projects. He also volunteers his time in support of marine conservation for coastal California. This broader experience helps John design holistic solutions that benefit the client while mitigating environmental impacts.
John received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and his master’s degree in structural engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He has been with Tipping Mar since 1993 and an associate since 1997.
